Barcelona, September 8, 2023_ The waters of the Barcelona racecourse will host the ORC Double Handed World Championship, which will take place from September 9 to 15, organized by the Royal Yacht Club of Barcelona, on behalf of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) under the authority of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and in collaboration with the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV).
Approximately 55 boats from 9 represented countries will converge in Barcelona to compete in the second edition of the ORC Double Handed World Championship, with the first edition having been held in July 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The participating fleet will be divided into three categories: Class A, Class B, and Class C, grouping boats of similar performance. Additionally, the 2023 ORC Double Handed World Championship will include the Corinthian division and the Corinthian Trophy, intended for entirely amateur teams.
The first two days of the ORC Double Handed World Championship 2023 will be dedicated to registration procedures, technical checks, and safety verifications of the boats. On the afternoon of Sunday, September 10th, the welcome ceremony will be held in the Village, located at the facilities of the Royal Yacht Club of Barcelona, where competitors can get to know each other and share experiences.
The sports program consists of a total of two scheduled races, one long offshore race and one short offshore race. The Organizing Committee has planned various courses, with distances ranging from approximately 200 to 70 nautical miles. Some of these routes will take participants from the coast of Barcelona to the Balearic Islands and back, while other options will explore the Catalan coast. The starting signal for the first long race is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m., and the short race will take place on Thursday the 14th, at the same time. Specific routes will be determined based on weather conditions to ensure optimal competition.
The culmination of the ORC Double Handed World Championship 2023 is scheduled for Friday, September 15th, at sunset, when the champions will be announced at the awards ceremony.
The Barcelona ORC Double Handed World Championship 2023 is organized by the Royal Yacht Club of Barcelona (RCNB) on behalf of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) under the authority of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and in collaboration with the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV). It has the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia, and EsportCat.
